Influence of Uniconazole and GA on Flower Bud Formation , Carbohydrate Content and GA - like Subsatance Activity

Abstract
This experiment was conducted to clarify the influence of uniconazole and GA treatment on flower bud formation, chlorophyll, carbohydrate contents and activity of endogenous GA-like substance of Cymbidium goeringii. Leaf length was reduced by uniconazole treatment but dry weight rate of pseudobulb, which is regarded as index of substantiality, was increased. Moreover, flower bud formation and flowering were accelerated by 14 days and 7 days as compared with control, respectively. Contents of chlorophyll, fructose and sucrose in leaf and starch content in pseudobulb treated with uniconazole were increased. As a result of endogenous GA-like substance activity, retardative activities in all of Rf 0.1-1.0 were shown in leaf treated with uniconazole. However, in pseudobulb, stimulative activities were shown in Rf 0.3-0.4 and low retardative activities were observed in the remaining Rf. GA treatment counteracted these effects of uniconazole. It is concluded that the reduction in activity of GA-like substances is a biochemical manifestation of the changes of growth and development induced by uniconazole.
